Pastor Jon Alexanian
Jesus has no equal – he is the source of salvation, the hope of nations, and God in the flesh
Over the last few weeks as we have worked our way through John’s Gospel, we have seen Jesus and others make some bold claims about him. As John the Baptist says, “Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world”. As his disciples have declared, He is the son of God, the one Moses wrote about in the Law, the King of Israel. And as Jesus himself has declared He is the Messiah, He is the only means by which we can attain eternal life (in turn flipping the whole idea of religion on it’s head). These are some epic claims. And He has backed them up with some epic actions.
This week, as we turn to chapters 7-8 (a huge chunk of scripture to be sure), we will see Jesus make his boldest claim yet. And while many of the claims made about Jesus so far have been continually misunderstood, the claim He makes this week is quickly understood – and instead of falling down in worship, instead of obeying his every word, the crowds pick up rocks and try to kill him.
To get the most out of this passage, I encourage you to read through chapters 7-8 a couple times. If you have the time continue reading through chapter 9 and into 10:21 – for the events that occur in these 4 chapters all happen within a matter of a few hours of each other. They all build to one climactic conclusion – and its pretty cool.
See you Sunday
